my experiences with God and life
weekend commands
Recently, my weekends have been full of stuff to do. I don’t think I have had one full day where I have done nothing but relax in a few months. It’s been a little crazy.
This weekend was no exception since we had Elijah’s Birthday bash at Quaker Steak and Lube on Friday, another party on Saturday with a few friends from high school, and then today we had church (awesome btw) and D&D. And I forgot that I had to get my brakes checked on Saturday, and then went out with my roommate John to grab dinner and peruse a local flea market.
It almost looks like upcoming weekends may look the same with little room for a breather. But I’m happy that I got to spend an enjoyable weekend with my friends.
I wanted to discuss what was preached today at church, but maybe another time. I have been reading through Matthew the past few days and saw something I wanted to share. It’s nothing near what I would consider earth-shattering insight, but I felt the need to place them on here.
In the first few chapters of Matthew, God shows us how easy it is to really follow His commands. For example, Joseph found out though a dream that his soon-to-be wife was pregnant and he should take Mary as his wife (Matthew 1:18-25). Most guys in today’s world would probably get angry at Mary and leave her. But God gave Joseph a command and he obeyed. Why is this so hard for us to do sometimes?
I mean, Joseph isn’t the first person to be told to do something that many of us would have issue with doing, but God is in control and we need to learn that it is all for His glory.
These kinds of examples of 100% faith in God and his plan are laid out for us in the first few chapters. From Joseph moving to Egypt and then back and over to Galilee (Matthew 2:19-23), to the calling of the first disciples (Matthew 4:18-22), God’s words here show us that doing His will shouldn’t be some process that has us weighing the situation. He commands; we follow. Simple as that.
Please, oh Father God, I pray that I follow your commands all the days I am in this fleshly vessel.
